Editorial initiative
Mutations en Méditerranée (MeM) is a multidisciplinary scientific journal in the Humanities and Social Sciences. In the form of thematic dossiers, it analyses the Mediterranean geographical zone as a fertile ground for experimentation and the development of hypotheses toward the study of numerous processes (political, economic, demographic, legal, social, and cultural), recontextualized within their specific historical frameworks and understood to have participated in critical “turning points”, crises, as well as in longer periods of transition or emerging change.
Rather than seeking to establish a singular theoretical definition of the Mediterranean space, the aim of the journal is to encourage diverse approaches to the question, that remain as close as possible to original data sources, as well as to primary actors within this field of research. Comparative approaches and reflexivity when considering concepts and investigative practices are encouraged, as is the use of mixed methodologies and the implementation of innovative tools and mixed techniques.
The Editorial Board of Mutations en Méditerranée is composed of doctoral students hailing from a range of disciplines within the Humanities and Social Sciences. A Scientific Board of researchers and professors, who are members of the Aix-Marseille Université research units, are responsible for reviewing the journal’s scientific content.
As a publication, the journal favors contributions produced by young researchers (PhD students and post-doctoral fellows) on a national and international scale.
The journal is supported by the Centre méditerranéen de sociologie, de science politique et d’histoire (MESOPOLHIS), in collaboration with graduate studies departments (ED 354 (École doctorale Langues, Lettres et Art), ED 355 (École Doctorale Espace Culture Sociétés), ED 67 (École doctorale Sciences juridiques et politiques), the Maison méditerranéenne des sciences de l’Homme (MMSH) et his Publishing Department.
Mutations en Méditerranée was initially created in 2022 by the Institut Sociétés en Mutation en Méditerranée (SoMuM), Aix-Marseille Université, in collaboration with graduate studies departments ED 355, ED 354, ED 67, as well as with the support of twelve research units, CGGG, CNE, DICE, IDEMEC, IMAF, IREMAM, LEST, LPED, MESOPOLHIS, PRISM, TDMAM, TELEMMe.
